Grab your favorite sweater and get ready—fall is bringing pumpkins, scarecrows, seasonal treats and plenty of mountain magic to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg! 

The Gatlinburg Harvest Festival fills downtown with colorful displays and dozens of whimsical, life-size scarecrows from September 1 through November 1, 2026. Download the Visit Gatlinburg app and turn your stroll through town into a Scarecrow Scavenger Hunt—selfies are highly encouraged! 

Over in Pigeon Forge, Dollywood’s Harvest Festival runs September 14 through October 31. 

Enjoy talented artisans, live entertainment and delicious harvest-inspired treats. After dark, Great Pumpkin LumiNights lights up Dollywood park with thousands of glowing pumpkins and larger-than-life displays. 

Still in the mood to shop? Stop by the Pigeon Forge Rotary Club Craft Fair at Patriot Park from September 25 through October 24 for handmade gifts and unique local treasures.

8th annual greate smoky mountains hot air balloon festival

Looking for something truly unforgettable during your Smoky Mountain vacation? Take a scenic drive to nearby Townsend for the 8th Annual Great Smoky Mountains Hot Air Balloon Festival on Saturday, August 15, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. 

Located just under an hour from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Townsend offers a quieter side of the Smokies and provides the perfect backdrop for one of East Tennessee's most colorful summer events. 

As the sun begins to set, professional hot air balloons inflate across the festival grounds, creating an incredible display of color against the surrounding mountain scenery. Guests can enjoy spectacular balloon glows, weather-permitting tethered balloon rides, live entertainment, local artisans, food trucks, a beer garden, family-friendly activities, and a variety of craft vendors. 

The festival is held rain or shine, although balloon flights and tethered rides depend on weather conditions for safety. It's a wonderful opportunity to experience a unique Smoky Mountain tradition while exploring the peaceful charm of Townsend.
