8th annual greate smoky mountains hot air balloon festival
Looking for something truly unforgettable during your Smoky Mountain vacation? Take a scenic drive to nearby Townsend for the 8th Annual Great Smoky Mountains Hot Air Balloon Festival on Saturday, August 15, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Located just under an hour from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Townsend offers a quieter side of the Smokies and provides the perfect backdrop for one of East Tennessee's most colorful summer events.
As the sun begins to set, professional hot air balloons inflate across the festival grounds, creating an incredible display of color against the surrounding mountain scenery. Guests can enjoy spectacular balloon glows, weather-permitting tethered balloon rides, live entertainment, local artisans, food trucks, a beer garden, family-friendly activities, and a variety of craft vendors.
The festival is held rain or shine, although balloon flights and tethered rides depend on weather conditions for safety. It's a wonderful opportunity to experience a unique Smoky Mountain tradition while exploring the peaceful charm of Townsend.
